Upcycling and re- & deconstructing garments are sustainable practices that help to reduce waste and promote more mindful consumption. By using those techniques combined with other sustainable choices BY IMUE draws attention to the importance of sustainable fashion practices and the impact of the industry on the environment.

REPRESENTATION

The fashion industry has historically struggled with diversity and inclusion, both in terms of the people who create fashion and the people who are represented in fashion. By using mainly BIPoC as models as well as for the design process BY IMUE helps to shift the industry towards a more representative and inclusive space and appreciates the beauty that comes with mixing diverse inspirations,cultures and areas. This helps to challenge stereotypes and promote cross-cultural understanding.

RESOURCES & THEIR STORIES

Each basis piece has a different story to tell, just like everyhuman being. By combining different things or garments with each other, new unique and special pieces arise and tell new stories. If a piece from a close family member or a friend is being mixed with a piece that has been thrifted and did belong toa unknown person, the new art piece is symbolizing diversity,charity and the appreciation of the unknown as well as different point of views, visions and communities that come together.

UNIQUENESS

Every final piece is unique. Due to the fact that BY IMUE only uses techniques such as upcycling or de- and reconstruction and uses thrifted and/or gifted pieces or leftover fabric as the base, every final art piece made out of fabric is special and only exists one timewith all their imperfections and highlights. This is symbolising the uniqueness and beauty of every single person and the fact that we should appreciate our imperfections and uniqueness, because that is what makes us beautiful and special.
